Contact Congress Today |

Contact your members of Congress today and encourage
them to cosponsor the Foreign Language Education
Partnership Act. The bill amends the Foreign
Language Assistance Program in NCLB-Title V to create a
new K-12/higher education foreign language education
partnership program. This legislation would provide
incentives for creating model programs of articulated,
sequenced foreign language instruction from K-12, with
the goal of graduating high school students with an
advanced level of proficiency.

NNELL Founding Member Marcia Harmon Rosenbusch
Retires |
Marcia
Harmon Rosenbusch, Ph.D., was a founding member
of the National Network for Early Language Learning
(NNELL), and was invited to serve as the editor of
NNELL’s newsletter FLES News from 1987 to 1995. She then
became the founding editor of NNELL’s professional
journal Learning Languages, serving from 1995 through
2001. NNELL named Dr. Rosenbusch Editor Emerita in 2001.
She was also the founding editor of the Iowa FLES
Newsletter and served as its editor from 1984-1993.
Dr. Rosenbusch served as the Director of the National
K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) at Iowa
State University (ISU) from 1994-2011. The NFLRC was the
first federally funded center to focus on building a
strong foundation in foreign language education in
elementary and secondary schools as a means of improving
the nation’s capacity for teaching and learning
languages at all levels, K-16. Through Dr. Rosenbusch’s
leadership, the NFLRC addressed projects that were
innovative for their time and focused on positively
impacting the world language profession. Since 1994, she
directed 44 summer professional development institutes
taught by nationally recognized leaders in the
profession to over 800 K-12 world language teachers and
teacher educators from all 50 states.
The Iowa Foreign Language Association honored Dr.
Rosenbusch in 1986-87 with the Iowa Educator of the Year
Award and again in 2010 with the Distinguished Service
Award. The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign
Languages honored Dr. Rosenbusch in 1996 with the
Florence Steiner Award for Leadership in Foreign
Language Education. Additionally, in 2001 the American
Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages honored Dr.
Rosenbusch with the Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence
in Teacher Education.
NNELL would like to thank Dr. Rosenbusch for all she has
done for the profession and for NNELL. She has been a
mentor, friend and inspiration to many. We wish
you the best in retirement.
