Marcela Summerville, Northeast Regional
Representative, will serve as interim National
Networking Coordinator until November. The Networking
Coordinator works with state and regional
representatives across the country to assess needs,
facilitate collaborative planning and share information. |

Language Testimony on the Hill: May 21, 2012 |
|
Thirteen witnesses testified about the need for
foreign language speakers in the military and other
parts of government, and the potential implications for
national security. Several of the speakers mentioned the
need to begin learning a language early.
Paula Patrick, Past President of NNELL
testified that “we now have ample research that proves
what all other countries have known for a long time. We
must start language learning at an early age when the
brain is most receptive to language acquisition.” Dr.
Dan Davidson, President of American Councils for
International Education stated “I cannot emphasize
enough the critical importance of developing a pipeline
of young students who begin foreign language instruction

The NNELL Nominations Committee is now accepting
nominations for the Executive Board offices of:

two letters of recommendation to

for more information. The committee will select two
nominees per office for the ballot. Voting will take
place in September.
